The anticipation about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
