Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
