Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found many other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior political figure stated the attack left him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
